ST. ALBANS FREE LIBRARY YOUTH ROOM DIRECTOR
Join our team at the beautiful St. Albans Free Library. Located in the heart of downtown St. Albans, the St. Albans Free Library is a vibrant library serving an active population of around 15,000. As the Youth Room Director, you'll support a broad variety of youth services for children and families in our busy youth room.
Work Hours: 35 hours a week. May include Saturdays and evenings as required.
Salary range: $46,000 – $52,000

SPECIFIC JOBS INCLUDE:
- Coordinate collection development, programming and other activities/services in the Youth Room.
- Assist patrons using ASPEN and provide public training in use of electronic resources when needed.
- Maintain knowledge of all Library procedures and services in order to provide assistance in other areas when needed.
- Coordinate with PR staff promotional materials for youth room events
- Provide reference services when needed.
- Provide Library instruction for groups and individuals.
- Periodically inventory youth room materials and assist with total Library inventories.
- Attend and participate in workshops, meetings, conferences, etc., as related to the Library and youth services in particular.
- Keep current on ideas, trends and innovations in the discipline and participate in continuing education when appropriate and possible.
- Community outreach to boost Library use and promote Library services.
- Work with other community agencies to provide the best possible intellectual climate in the area.
- Write/pursue grants to further the interests of the Library.
- Provide programming and collection statistics to the director.
- Supervise volunteers and other employees in the Youth Room.
- Monitor computer usage to ensure proper compliance with Library policies.
- Work with other staff members in developing ideas for Library promotion and recommend innovation for service.
- Keep staff fully informed in changes in policies/procedures.
- Other duties as assigned by the Director.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree or an appropriate combination of education & experience.
- Vermont Library Certification or enrollment in program.
- Extensive knowledge of children development and youth services.
- Ability to work well with patrons of all ages.
- Provide a welcoming patron first culture with a commitment to diversity and inclusion.
- Ability to work well with other staff members as well as working independently.
- Skilled in technology and ever-changing digital content.
- Must be able to push or pull carts, do a moderate amount of bending, squatting, lifting (up to 40 lbs.), stretching and standing for extended periods of time.
